Virtually ever since audiences met Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story, we've hoped to see the actor return to the role, and while there's no updates on such a possibility, Clarke will still be asked the question for years to come. In a new interview for IMDB, Clarke was asked about such a return, which first saw fellow Star Wars alum Ben Mendelsohn step in to ask the question after Clarke was noticeably flustered, before she joked that she couldn't do Star Wars because she's now a part of Marvel. Clarke is currently appearing in Secret Invasion on Disney+.

After Mendelsohn asks if Clarke would want to reprise Qi'ra, Clarke responded, "Well ... you know what? Um..." before Mendelsohn jumped in to offer to take the question. After they both laugh, Clarke jokes, "I'm in Marvel now, I'm not allowed."

While her initial reaction is sure to result in all sorts of translations, it would seem as though the actor was tasked with offering either an honest reaction or offering a diplomatic response, which could have either ignited or killed hope about such a return. It's unclear whether any of these reactions would have leaned closer toward the likelihood of a return, though only time will tell whether we could ever get more of Qi'ra.

In Solo, audiences learned that Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) had a relationship with Qi'ra earlier in his life, with the two becoming separated and Qi'ra being sucked into the criminal underworld. The film's ending showed that Qi'ra opted to further immerse herself into the Crimson Dawn, even if it meant allying herself with Maul (Ray Park).

Qi'ra would ultimately return in various comic book events which took place between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Qi'ra's grand plan was to activate her Crimson Dawn followers throughout the galaxy in hopes of taking out Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. When her efforts failed, she abandoned her work with Crimson Dawn and all the benefits that came with it, opting for a life of isolation and solitude. When last we saw Qi'ra, she had survived the events of Return of the Jedi to at least see that Vader and Palpatine had been defeated, even if she had no part in it.

Stay tuned for details on a possible future for Clarke in Star Wars.

Star Wars: James Mangold Doubts His Film Will Use Words Like "Jedi" or "Force" https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-james-mangold-movie-dawn-of-the-jedi-details-status-update-force/ Thu, 29 Jun 2023 20:08:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 4e1c9a53-56e4-4785-8d5e-2c3f35516fb9

When Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that James Mangold was developing a new film for the Star Wars franchise, she used the term "Dawn of the Jedi" in order to convey how far back into the galaxy far, far away's history the story would be taking place. Because of how far back in time the adventure will be set, Mangold himself recently cast doubt on the script even using terms like "Force" or "Jedi," as it will seemingly be in such infancy that the characters wouldn't have names to describe either the mystical connection between living things or a label for an organization adopting certain teachings.

"I don't wanna make any guarantees one way or another, but it will be before Jedi, meaning you might be experiencing something that might become Jedi," Mangold replied to the Happy Sad Confused podcast about whether the film will use those terms. "Despite the fact that other people make movies other ways, I don't tend to think people brand themselves before they've actually found themselves. So you don't come up with a name for your organization ... 'Let's put this big thing on our chests.' I think that the branding tends to happen later."

Even though Mangold has directed films like Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, both of which have connections to sprawling franchises, he detailed how he aimed to go so far back into Star Wars' history that he can make a standalone story as opposed to having to be hindered by connecting narrative tissue.

"When I talk to some of the Star Wars clerics who keep track of all these timelines, I was like, 'So when would this have happened?' and they were like, '25,000 years before Episode I.' And I was like, 'Oh, I was looking for some distance, but that's distance,'" the filmmaker joked. "The reality, for me, was that feeling of space, pun not intended but apropos, was something that I felt was really important. Not to get away from -- again, fan service or the intricacies of what George [Lucas] has set up and dreamed of, but to just have the space to tell a story and not be instantly encumbered by the bases you have to hit. Which, honestly, there's no way to explain it to folks other than to say it's like that game we played as kids, Twister, that at a certain point, you're in a tangle because you just are trying to find a way to tell a story with so many constraints that you can't."

George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to The Walt Disney Company back in 2012 and has largely stayed out of the way of filmmakers and the studio telling stories in the franchise. Mangold pointed out how he has yet to talk to Lucas about what he aims to explore with his film, though also noted how he aims to explore the boundaries of what people might expect for the saga.

"I have not had a chance to talk to him at all about what I'm thinking. He was involved and read the script and was a Ford v Ferrari fan, I'm told, but it would be very interesting to talk to him," Mangold divulged. "I'm very protective of myself, in the sense of ... Even describing meeting Bob Dylan in relation to the Dylan film, I like to have my sh-t together before I get into those kinds of situations. Because every good idea skates at the very edge of being precipitously awful. And every safe idea never gets towards that edge. So the trick is always to develop your idea enough that you're compatriates and consultants and mentor can understand how you're avoiding going over the edge, not just daring it."

James Mangold's film is one of three confirmed Star Wars movies on the horizon, though it doesn't have a confirmed release date.

Star Wars: James Mangold Says His Boba Fett Movie Would Have Been "Borderline Rated R" https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-boba-fett-movie-details-r-rated-spinoff-plans-reaction-explained/ Thu, 29 Jun 2023 19:36:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 5743b495-5aa1-483c-b2ac-75aba55305a6

Back in 2018, after years of fans expressing their enthusiasm of getting more Boba Fett, reports claimed that Logan director James Mangold would be developing a spin-off film focusing on the character, only for those plans to dissolve in the wake of Solo: A Star Wars Story's underwhelming reception. Mangold himself recently recalled that not only would the film have been much more mature in tone, but also that his approach to the material wasn't merely repurposed for the events of The Mandalorian or Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett. Mangold is set to return to the galaxy far, far away to explore a story centered around the time of the Dawn of the Jedi.

"At the point I was doing it, I was probably scaring the sh-t out of everyone, but I was probably making much more of a borderline-rated R spaghetti Western, single-planet spaghetti Western," Mangold recalled to the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "The world would never be able to embrace Baby Yoda if I had made that, he didn't really belong in the world I was envisioning. In a moment of corporate realignment after whatever happened with the Han Solo movie, they just suddenly decided they weren't making pictures like that. I think the opportunities -- streaming -- presented themselves."

He continued, "It was a beautiful period, I was just listening to Ennio Morricone all day, all night, and typing away. I'm not sure it ever would have happened, I'm not sure it was in anyone's plans, what I was thinking about."

Mangold wasn't the first filmmaker whose name was attached to develop a movie focused on the bounty hunter, as Fantastic Four director Josh Trank had also been in talks to bring such a project to life. In the years since both of these projects were reported, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has debunked the veracity of just how far into development either of these projects were, so it seems entirely unlikely that elements from either project will end up being brought to life in a reimagined concept.

When Boba Fett did make his return, it was for a surprise appearance in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, which showcased how the character survived the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. While there are no confirmed reports of Boba Fett making a return in the near future, a Season 2 of The Book of Boba Fett currently seems unlikely.

Stay tuned for details on James Mangold's upcoming Star Wars movie.

Riz Ahmed Addresses Possible Star Wars or Venom Return (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/movies/news/nimona-riz-ahmed-addresses-star-wars-venom-return-exclusive/ Wed, 28 Jun 2023 22:13:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson f3f4abbb-20d3-49c7-a007-14c749d6d6b2

Riz Ahmed has had a pretty eclectic career over the years, between Oscar-winning work and massive blockbusters. Two of the biggest films Ahmed has been in might be 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in which he played Resistance cargo pilot Bodhi Rook, and 2018's Marvel picture Venom, in which he played the villainous Carlton Drake / Riot. With the third Venom movie just beginning production this week, and the Rogue One prequel series Star Wars: Andor gearing up for its second season, there are definitely narrative opportunities for Ahmed to possibly appear in either role. While speaking to ComicBook.com about his role as Lord Ballister Boldheart in the upcoming Netflix movie Nimona, Ahmed revealed that he would gladly continue "working with great people" on either project, but he also recognizes a reprisal of his characters might not be needed.

"I'm always interested in working with great people on anything that feels like I could be helpful," Ahmed explained in our interview, which you can check out above. "At the same time, I also realize that being a team player means you come in and you do a bit, and it has a start and an end."

What Is Nimona About?

In Nimona, when Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed), a knight in a futuristic medieval world, is framed for a crime he didn't commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona (Chlo? Grace Moretz), a mischievous teen with a taste for mayhem -- who also happens to be a shapeshifting creature Ballister has been trained to destroy. But with the entire kingdom out to get him, Nimona's the best (or technically the only) sidekick Ballister can hope for. And as the lines between heroes, villains, and monsters start to blur, the two of them set out to wreak serious havoc -- for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to...just wreak serious havoc.

Nimona, which ended up at Netflix after being canceled mid-production at Blue Sky Studios, is directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane. The film also stars Eugene Lee Yang as Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin, Frances Conroy as The Director, and Beck Bennett as Sir Thoddeus Sureblade. It is based on N.D. Stevenson's beloved graphic novel of the same name.

"I just can't wait for people to sit, to meet Nimona, and what Chloe has done with Nimona," Ahmed said elsewhere in our interview. "It's just next level. We all know she's an amazing actor, but I just think this incredibly kind of sprightly, mischievous, hilarious character that she has brought to life. I honestly think is just kind of a classic personality, a classic character, and I just can't wait for people to meet her."

Do you want to see Riz Ahmed return to the Star Wars or Marvel universes? Are you excited to see his performance in Nimona? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!

Nimona will debut exclusively on Netflix on Friday, June 30th.

Star Wars Eclipse Release Window Revealed in New Report https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-eclipse-game-release-report/ Wed, 28 Jun 2023 17:34:00 +0000 Logan Moore 2a48c92d-c480-4a1b-a632-8187f41bf21a

Quantic Dream's upcoming video game Star Wars Eclipse reportedly has a new launch window. Announced during The Game Awards back in 2021, Eclipse was shown off to fans for the first time in a fully-CGI teaser trailer. Since this reveal, many have been wondering when new information on Star Wars Eclipse might up coming about. Sadly, if this new report in question is to be believed, it sounds like the adventure title is roughly three years away.

According to Insider Gaming, Star Wars Eclipse is currently targeting a launch in 2026. This information comes from an anonymous source that is said to be familiar with the game's ongoing development. Although 2026 is when Quantic Dream would like to release Star Wars Eclipse, it was also stressed that this window could end up slipping further back. Specifically, this is because Quantic Dream is said to have struggled when it comes to hiring new team members to help work on the title.

Currently, Star Wars Eclipse is just one of many Star Wars games in the works. Other titles happen to include Star Wars Outlaws from Ubisoft, an untitled first-person shooter from Respawn Entertainment, and another untitled project from Uncharted creator Amy Hennig at Skydance New Media. A remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is also known to be in the works for PlayStation 5, but previous reports have indicated that this game is experiencing major development struggles and might never see the light of day.

Given how far out Star Wars Eclipse is, there's still very little that we know about the game overall. Whenever Eclipse releases, though, it should come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Until then, you can check out the official description of the game down below to learn more.

"Star Wars Eclipse lets you play as a diverse cast of charismatic characters, each with their own story, abilities, and role to play in the tapestry of events that could alter the carefully balanced peace of the Outer Rim. Every decision you make can have dramatic repercussions on your journey. The way of life in the Outer Rim is being threatened and you must define your path."

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Director Tried to Pry Star Wars Secrets From Harrison Ford https://comicbook.com/movies/news/indiana-jones-5-james-mangold-harrison-ford-star-wars-secrets-han-solo/ Wed, 28 Jun 2023 03:56:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely c7ddcf7d-88fc-4d23-9af7-34e3e733569f

Harrison Ford and James Mangold are about to share more in common than the Indiana Jones franchise. Ford and Mangold recently teamed up for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the fifth film in the series and the first not directed by Steven Spielberg. In the near future, Mangold will also be making the jump to Ford's other iconic screen franchise: Star Wars. Lucasfilm and Disney announced earlier this year that Mangold will be directing a Star Wars movie about the origins of the Force.

Mangold was working with the Han Solo star on Dial of Destiny before getting hired to direct a Star Wars movie, but he still spent plenty of time on set picking Ford's brain about what ideas had been pitched for the future of the galaxy far, far away. While speaking to Screen Rant, Mangold talked about his late night Star Wars chats with Ford.

"Obviously, you can't be doing all night shoots in the middle of the Santa Clarita Valley, waiting for lighting setups to be completed and not start interviewing Harrison Ford with crazy Star Wars questions and Indy questions," Mangold said. "Somewhere around 2 a.m. he'd start telling stories about what they were thinking of next and what they're working on. Little did I know it would end up being me."

In addition to helming an upcoming Star Wars movie, Mangold is also slated to make one of the first films in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe. Mangold has been tapped to direct a Swamp Thing movie for DC Studios.

Choosing the Indiana Jones 5 Title

The fifth installment of the Indiana Jones saga is meant to be its last. Harrison Ford is the only actor to have played the titular character in feature films over the years, and there are no plans to recast Indy in order to make more movies. At 80 years old, Ford as made it clear that he's not planning to play Indiana Jones again.

While this will be the final installment of the Indiana Jones series, director James Mangold made a point not to indicate as much with the title. Since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade already included a word hinting at an ending, Mangold and the production team had a rule against using that terminology.

"Because Last Crusade. You couldn't say last because Last Crusade did it and wasn't," Mangold explained during a recent interview with Uproxx. "'Final' is in every movie from Halloween. Every movie has, at least, the 17th installment called 'Final' something. So you think, you can't go 'final.'"

Dial of Destiny may not have "last" or "final" in the title, but it definitely going to be the end of the story for the titular adventurer and the icon who plays him. Ford, now 80 years old, is done playing Indy. While there may be other stories set in this world at some point, there aren't plans to recast the character for another go-round.

Ford may be retiring from playing Indiana Jones, but he isn't retiring from acting as a profession. Appearing on Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? this week, Ford addressed his future as an actor.

"I don't [plan to retire]," Ford said. "I don't do well when I don't have to work. I love to work. I love to feel useful. It's my jones. I want to be helpful."

The iconic Harrison Ford returns for one last adventure when Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premieres in theaters on June 30th. Lucasfilm's latest film in the long-running franchise sees Dr. Jones team up with his goddaughter Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) in a race against nefarious forces to secure a powerful artifact. The duo will go up against the mysterious former Nazi-turned-NASA scientist J?rgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen), and the film also features stars Boyd Holbrook, Antonio Banderas, Toby Jones, and John Rhys Davies. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is directed by James Mangold and is set to be Ford's final appearance as the iconic archeologist.

Star Wars Unlimited Releases Quickstart Rules, Reveals New Cards https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-unlimited-quickstart-rules-new-cards/ Wed, 28 Jun 2023 01:42:00 +0000 Christian Hoffer 518ff712-9a2e-4882-aeea-230933613844

Star Wars Unlimited has officially released its Quickstart ruleset along with several new cards. Today, Fantasy Flight Games released the Quickstart rules for Star Wars Unlimited, the new trading card game coming out next year. The ruleset details everything from deckbuilding rules to victory conditions to how exactly to deploy cards and attack. While some of the rules were either fully revealed or strongly hinted at, the Quickstart rules provide the deepest look yet for the first new Star Wars trading card game published since 2020. Additionally, Fantasy Flight Games also revealed three new cards over the past several weeks - the Cloud City Wing Guard and Viper Probe Droid unit cards and the "I Am Your Father" action card, which was appropriately first revealed on Father's Day.

In Star Wars Unlimited, players build a 50-card deck made up of a mixture of units, actions, and event cards. Every deck contains a Leader and a Base card, which are put out on the playing field at the beginning of play. Every card has an "aspect" - a symbol that serves a similar role as a color in Magic: The Gathering or a Pokemon type in the Pokemon Trading Card Game. While players can build their deck using cards of any combination of aspects, they must pay an "aspect penalty" to play cards that don't share an aspect with either their Leader or Base card. Every Leader card has two Aspects and every Base card has a single aspect, so most decks in Star Wars: Unlimited will be made up of cards from three aspects.

Interestingly, Star Wars Unlimited's resource mechanic is very similar to Disney Lorcana, another highly anticipated trading card game coming out in the coming months. At the start of the game, players choose two cards from their initial hand to serve as resources. These cards are placed to the side of the playing field and can be exhausted every turn to pay for other cards. Once a card is designated as a resource, it can't enter the field of play as a normal card, but it appears that any card can be used as a resource. Players can add one card to their resource pool at the end of every turn, so players will need to decide whether to stockpile cards in their hand or use them as fuel to get other cards into play,

As stated previously, every deck has a Leader card, which has two functions. Players can use a Leader card's default ability every turn and they can eventually be deployed as a normal unit by activating their "Epic Action" ability once they have enough resources. Once a Leader card is defeated as a unit, they are returned to their base and cannot be redeployed. However, they can continue to use their standard action every turn.

Players win the game by reducing their player's Base to zero HP. Players can attack with Unit cards that are deployed to one of two arenas of play - the ground or space. Players can still choose to attack a player's base with a unit even if their opponent has units in the same arena of play, unless an opposing Unit has the Sentinel trait. Saboteur units can bypass Sentinel cards and still deal damage to a base directly, so a player can't just stack up arenas with stout Sentinel unit cards. Some cards also restore health to a base when they attack. If a player attacks an opposing unit, both units simultaneously take damage, with damage persisting on a card until it's defeated.

In general, it seems like Star Wars Unlimited is a bit like a game of Magic: The Gathering Commander but with enough twists and wrinkles to keep the game distinct. The three aspect system adds a lot more possibility for deck builds, and it will be interesting to see how players balance dealing with two ways to attack their opponent (and defend against attacks) on every turn.

You can read the full Quickstart rules to Star Wars Unlimited here. The card game will be released in 2024.

Star Wars: Lucasfilm President Details How New Jedi Order and Dawn of the Jedi Films Are Linked https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-rey-skywalker-movie-new-jedi-order-dawn-of-the-jedi-james-mangold-connection-explained/ Tue, 27 Jun 2023 19:11:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh db3dad57-35f3-4258-a06d-12c08c09b4d9

At this year's Star Wars Celebration, three movies were announced by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, with one film jumping forward in the saga's timeline to see Rey Skywalker develop a New Jedi Order, while another film went much further into the past to explore the Dawn of the Jedi. Despite the narratives of these films being separated by thousands of years, Kennedy recently recalled that both films will mark new beginnings for what it means to be a Jedi. A third film is also on the way, which will be directed by Dave Filoni and will unfold at the time of The New Republic.

"That's come up a lot, from the moment I stepped in and George [Lucas] brought me into the company, there's been a lot of interest in that," Kennedy detailed to GamesRadar+ about the origins of the Force. "It was something that [director] Jim [Mangold] immediately sparked to, and I think it's a really nice complement to what we're doing with moving into the future with Rey, and then understanding a bit more of where this all came from."

She added, "Because it will be at the heart of creating the New Jedi Order, so to get a real sense of where that might have began with the Dawn of the Jedi could be pretty cool."

With the original trilogy of Star Wars films, Lucas intentionally wanted to honor the spirit of adventure serials, which included kicking off the series at Episode IV as opposed to at the very beginning of the Skywalker Saga. Kennedy pointed out how, after having told the complete story of those characters, the upcoming New Jedi Order film will finally allow for a fresh start.

"I think what's always great about Star Wars is it's a big galaxy, and we're coming off what was a major war with the First Order," Kennedy expressed. "And now, Rey has made a promise to Luke and that's really the core of where we're going and what this story will be. And I think it offers just tremendous opportunity to introduce new characters and start with something fresh, because we culminated with what George was creating, and now we take all of that and move it to the next chapter."

There are two Star Wars films with release dates in 2026, but Lucasfilm hasn't confirmed which of the announced films will be debuting on those dates

Star Wars: The Old Republic Is Being Passed Off From BioWare to a New Studio https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-the-old-republic-bioware-new-studio/ Tue, 27 Jun 2023 16:43:00 +0000 Logan Moore 79791db9-3417-4dcd-9488-af9b720ed166

BioWare has today announced that it will be passing off the ongoing development of its MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic to a new studio. Since its launch all the way back in 2011, BioWare has been the sole developer on The Old Republic and has continued to keep the game alive with new content and updates. Now, after such a long period of time working on the title, BioWare has revealed that it will be ending its own work on Star Wars: The Old Republic and will hand the reins to developer Broadsword.

In a new blog post on BioWare's official website, studio GM Gary McKay explained that he believes The Old Republic has the "best opportunity to grow and evolve" if given to a new developer. As such, Broadsword will be stepping in to take over the ongoing work on the Star Wars MMO moving forward. Previously, Broadsword has worked on other MMO titles, namely with Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot.

"I've been working closely with Keith Kanneg, who leads the SWTOR team, to give the game and the team the best opportunity to grow and evolve. And so, while EA will remain SWTOR's publisher, development of the game will move to our partner and friends at Broadsword, a boutique studio with expertise in managing online games," McKay said. "In the long run, though, we are confident that this is the best decision for the game and its community. We at BioWare will miss being a part of SWTOR's story going forward. But we also know that it will be in very good hands."

McKay also made clear that this shift in developers doesn't mean that anything on the player side will be changing with Star Wars: The Old Republic. EA will still serve as the publisher of the project and some individual devs that have previously been on the Old Republic team will have the option to jump ship to Broadsword. So while this marks the end of BioWare's time being the lead developer on the long-running MMO, it doesn't seem like this move is one that will have a negative impact on players.

Carrie Fisher's Iconic Star Wars Dress to Be Sold at Auction After Being Found in an Attic https://comicbook.com/irl/news/carrie-fishers-iconic-star-wars-dress-to-be-sold-at-auction-after-being-found-in-an-attic/ Tue, 27 Jun 2023 04:56:00 +0000 Nicole Drum b6b0a836-7d42-4adf-9d91-9b97bb273f93

A dress worn by Carrie Fisher in the original Star Wars film could sell for $2 million at auction. According to The Wrap the dress, which was worn by Fisher's Princess Leia in the final scene of Star Wars, was long believed to have been destroyed and ultimately discovered in a London attic belonging to one of the film's original crew members. The dress has since been restored -- a process that was done by hand over an 8-month period -- and is now set to go up for auction by Propstore Auctions. Bidding on the auction will begin at 8 a.m. PT on Wednesday, June 28th.

Per the item's listing, the dress is the original screen-matched ceremonial dress by legendary costume designer John Mollo and was worn by Leia in the film's final scene in the throne room where Leia bestowed medals of honor on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). The dress is the only Princess Leia costume known to still exist from the film. Only one copy of this dress was ever made for the film.

Bidding started at $500,000 and there has already been one absentee bid for $750,000. The dress is expected to go for between $1 and $2 million.

The dress is part of Propstore's Los Angeles Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction and contains a number of other notable items including Peter Quill/Star-Lord's Helmet from Guardians of the Galaxy (1&2); Jane Foster's (Natalie Portman) cracked hammer from Thor: Love & Thunder; the Evil Clown Doll from Poltergeist; and costumes from films like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Gladiator, and The Big Lebowski.

"This year, Propstore's Los Angeles Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction contains many never seen before treasures from film and television content including Princess Leia's Ceremonial Dress from the end of Star Wars which was once thought to be lost and the screen-matched "Evil" Clown who dragged Robbie under the bed in Poltergeist," Brandon Alinger, Propstore COO said in a statement. "Whether you're an advanced collector or you just learned it's possible to own items like these, we'll have over 1,400 original lots of prop costumes and more to choose from, representing over 500 of your favorite titles."

Propstore's Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction runs from Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th June 2023.

What do you think? Do you think the iconic Princess Leia dress will go for $2 million at auction or will it go for more (or less)? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section!

Disney Reveals New Star Wars: Ahsoka Footage to Be Released This Weekend https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-ahsoka-footage-revealed-weekend-essence-fest/ Tue, 27 Jun 2023 02:55:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 03ca3417-90ef-4dac-81ab-4f27343f4c4e

The live-action Ahsoka TV show isn't set to premiere on Disney+ for another couple of months, but some new footage from the highly anticipated Star Wars series is going to be arriving very soon. Star Wars: Ahsoka, following Rosario Dawson's titular Force-user, is the next live-action Star Wars project coming to Disney+ and the House of Mouse is planning to debut a new look at the show at the 2023 ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans, LA.

On Monday, Disney announced the lineup of guests, events, and panels that are set to take place at this year's ESSENCE Fest. The "Studio Showcase" this year will focus on Haunted Mansion, Star Wars: Ahsoka, and Disney's new animated film, Wish. Rosario Dawson stars in both Haunted Mansion and Ahsoka, so she'll be there to present the footage. A specific time for the Ahsoka footage debut hasn't been announced just yet.

"Disney is proud to return to the ESSENCE Festival of Culture as a major sponsor and showcase the magic happening across our brands," said Jill Estorino, president and managing director of Disney Parks International. "Through culture-defining storytelling, unforgettable experiences, and more, we are inviting everyone to experience first-hand 'The Power of Joy' and the many ways creativity, innovation, and contributions from Black culture are reflected across Disney."

ESSENCE Fest Primetime will livestream on Hulu throughout the weekend, airing on the streaming service from 7pm to midnight CT on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

When Does Star Wars: Ahsoka Premiere?

Star Wars fans may be getting new Ahsoka footage this weekend, but the show itself is still almost two months away. Disney+ and Lucasfilm recently used a teaser trailer to announce that Star Wars: Ahsoka would be premiering on August 23rd.

The tentpole shows on Disney+ are being spread out a little more than they had been over the past couple of years. Ahsoka is going to be the first live-action Star Wars show since the third season of The Mandalorian, which concluded in April. There will also be a gap of a few weeks between the conclusion of Marvel's Secret Invasion and the start of Ahsoka.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Cast

Dawson leads the cast of Ahsoka as the titular character, reprising the role from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Key characters from Star Wars Rebels will be making their way to the world of live-action with this series, as Mary Elizabeth Winstead takes on the role of Hera Syndulla, Natasha Liu Bordizzo plays Sabine Wren, and Eman Esfandi appears as Ezra Bridger. Lars Mikkelsen will play the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn, after having lent his voice to the character in the animated shows.

Ahsoka also stars the late Ray Stevenson, who tragically passed away this year.

Fan-favorite Star Wars hero Ahsoka Tano returns in the brand new series on Disney+. Rosario Dawson stars in Star Wars: Ahsoka, premiering in August on the streamer. The series picks up after the events of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, in which we saw the former Jedi searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and helping Luke Skywalker train Grogu. Ahsoka will be joined on her new mission alongside longtime allies Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) as they attempt to track down Thrawn, who was last seen disappearing to the far reaches of space after a confrontation with Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Star Wars: Ahsoka is the latest live-action series from Lucasfilm's creative duo of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Freddy Krueger Actor Robert Englund Has a Surprising Star Wars Story https://comicbook.com/movies/news/freddy-krueger-actor-robert-englund-has-a-surprising-star-wars-story/ Mon, 26 Jun 2023 16:34:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame f3390773-cd66-4479-990d-f768d89570f9

One of the craziest missed connections in Hollywood history is the idea that A Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund had a chance to play Luke Skywalker in 1977's Star Wars. Granted, this isn't like an Eric Stoltz thing where they got the movie into production and had to change -- but the proximity of an iconic actor with an iconic character that seems totally off-brand for him is a wild one. During a recent conversation with People, he recalled the story as clearly and succinctly as he could -- important, since a prior, shorter version of the story had gone viral, causing Mark Hamill to correct some of the misconceptions in it.

While hoping to get cast for Apocalypse Now, directed by George Lucas's longtime friend Francis Ford Coppola, a casting agent suggested Englund should instead try to read for the "space movie that they were casting across the hall." According to Englund, nothing ever came of it -- all they did was take a Polaroid of him and send him on his way -- but he was struck by the name "Luke Skywalker," which he said was "just the coolest name in the world."

Englund famously recommended Hamill for the role, although Hamill later said that his agent already had him up for it by then.

"I'm a character actor, so I never thought of it for me, but when I went back to my apartment, there was Mark with a Heineken in his fist watching Bob Newhart. I told him about it, and he got on the phone and called his agent," Englund told People. "Now his agent, I believe she already had him up for the role," Englund recalls. "And that may be true, I don't know, but I know that Mark hadn't heard about it yet. And I did tell him about it, and he got on the phone. That's the story."

In Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story, "A classically trained actor and director, Robert Englund has become one of the most revolutionary horror icons of our generation. Throughout his career, Englund starred in many well-known movies, but shot to super-stardom with his portrayal of supernatural serial killer Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. This unique and intimate portrait captures the man behind the glove and features interviews with Englund and his wife Nancy, Lin Shaye, Eli Roth, Tony Todd, Heather Langenkamp, and more."

Stay tuned for updates on the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story is streaming on Screambox and Digital HD.

Back in 2021, Hasbro released a Star Wars The Black Series First Order Stormtrooper electronic helmet that is currently unavailable unless you're willing to pay as much as $250-$300 for it. The good news is that Disney has filled the void with their own model, which comes straight from the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge attraction. Like the Hasbro version, it is a 1:1 scale helmet that features voice-changing effects. However, it also adds 10 real character phrases and is reasonably priced at $99.99.

What's more, you don't need to travel to Disney Parks to get your hands on it. The Stormtrooper helmet is currently available to order here at shopDisney with free US shipping using the code SHIPMAGIC at checkout.

"Strike fear in the hearts of Rebels with this First Order Stormtrooper helmet with sound effects. With precise detail, it recreates the helmet worn by the elite force of next generation Stormtroopers. Inspired by the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, it features real character phrases and a voice-changing effect. The adjustable fit is designed for adults so you can defend the Empire in comfort and style. Welcome to the Dark Side."

Speaking of Disney Star Wars replicas, Ezra Bridger of Star Wars Rebels fame (and soon to be live-action Ahsoka fame) was the latest inspiration in Disney's fast growing lineup of lighstaber replicas. The hilt design is based on green lightsaber that Ezra built after his first one was destroyed by Darth Vader. Like previous Star Wars lightsaber hilts released by Disney, it will have the ability to activate sound and light effects when paired with a blade that's sold separately. It will also come packaged in a display case with a Starbird symbol. The Ezra Bridger Legacy Lightsaber hilt is right here at shopDisney for $169.99.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal Supports Bo-Katan Becoming Series' Focus https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-mandalorian-bo-katan-kryze-din-djarin-pedro-pascal-reaction-focus-lead/ Thu, 22 Jun 2023 20:25:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh ee7cc0c1-6788-4ed6-84b2-6551c485b720

While the title might be in the singular, the Star Wars series The Mandalorian has grown in scope over three seasons, seeing a variety of figures become focal points of the project, especially as Season 3 saw Katee Sackhoff's Bo-Katan Kryze become nearly as prominent as Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin. During a conversation with Variety, Pascal addressed this shift in the most recent season and expressed his support for how the series has made Bo-Katan such a prominent figure in the narrative as opposed to making his character and his adventures with Grogu the main storyline.

"It was great in that it also comes into a full realization of a beloved character that is from the world of Dave Filoni in Bo-Katan," Pascal shared with the outlet about the growing prominence of Bo-Katan. "Din Djarin is a creation that starts with combining the worlds of Star Wars. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni introducing this character through the live-action, The Mandalorian, and then creating the opportunities of pooling references and live-action characters from his, Dave Filoni's, beloved animated series. Sure we, everyone, gets to experience the excitement of the character [Bo-Katan] being introduced and she's badass, and it's perfect casting."

Pascal continued, "I'm a big Battlestar Galactica fanboy, I own the DVDs -- I still can't think of anything that has a better intro than Battlestar Galactica, just the thrill of that drum beat and showing you what's going to happen, but throwing your scent off of what was going to happen in the episode. I remember Dave [Filoni] talking to me about the possibility of casting the voice actor in the Bo-Katan role, and I was like, 'Katee Sackhoff? You gotta do it.' And so, anyway, I think it was perfect that we get to meet and see the character, and she gets to do all this cool sh-t in the second season, and then take center stage in the third and that's what I would want for the character and as a fan of The Clone Wars."

In the Season 3 finale of The Mandalorian, Bo-Katan became the rightful leader of the Mandalorian community while Din Djarin and Grogu embraced a more isolated lifestyle. Given the name of the series, this could allow Bo-Katan to become the major focus of the series going forward and allow Din Djarin to take more of a supporting role, with future seasons opening up various storytelling avenues that focus on any number of Mandalorian characters.

A Season 4 of The Mandalorian is expected to be developed, though it has yet to officially be confirmed by Lucasfilm.

Star Wars: Rumored Plot Details About Rey Skywalker Movie Emerge https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-rey-skywalker-new-jedi-order-details-plot-sequel-tease/ Thu, 22 Jun 2023 18:59:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 5c4dc7d4-179e-4ebb-82f7-c6d9ddba3c55

In the months since Lucasfilm officially announced a new film would explore Rey Skywalker attempting to develop a New Jedi Order after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, details about the film's plot have slowly trickled in, with the latest update coming courtesy of Production Weekly, per Bespin Bulletin. While the original source often puts a priority on the scheduling elements of movies and TV series, they do also include official details about such projects that haven't yet been announced, which includes a slightly more elaborate update on what audiences can expect from this Rey Skywalker project.

Production Weekly describes of the new film, "Set roughly 15 years after Rey's victory over Palpatine and the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The sequel delves into Rey's courageous endeavor to restore the Jedi Order, where she assumes the role of mentor to two promising young students -- a girl and a boy. As their training progresses, it becomes evident the girl possesses extraordinary abilities, destined to emerge as a future leader."

As pointed out by Bespin Bulletin, the rough concept of a story set 15 years after the end of The Rise of Skywalker in which Rey develops a New Jedi Order has previously been confirmed, while the plot points involving a boy and a girl student might be based on rumors surrounding Damon Lindelof's script, which reportedly focused on two leads. With Lindelof having departed the project, it's entirely possible that this synopsis is nothing more than speculation, as Production Weekly's emphasis as an outlet is often on technical aspects of shooting as opposed to narrative details.

This synopsis also hints at how Rey would serve as a mentor figure to the young children, which would confirm other reports about her involvement in the project. When the film was announced, Lucasfilm confirmed Daisy Ridley would reprise her role as Rey, but rumors have emerged in the months since that she will be more of a supporting character than the focal point of the narrative. This could allow Rey to involved in the story similar to Obi-Wan's role in the original trilogy or Luke Skywalker's role in the sequel trilogy.

The outlet also claims that production is slated to kick off in April of next year, which could give it an ultimate release in 2026.

Stay tuned for updates on the Rey Skywalker movie.

Star Wars: James Mangold Reportedly "More Than Flirted" With a Boba Fett Movie https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-boba-fett-movie-james-mangold-explained-reaction-lucasfilm/ Thu, 22 Jun 2023 18:01:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 4b856112-b833-4599-a922-c0fadc8d8914

Ahead of the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, there seemed to be limitless potential for other beloved characters to get spin-off films, which included reports emerging just days ahead of Solo's release that James Mangold was tapped to helm a Boba Fett film. In the years since those reports emerged, various figures involved with that reported project have offered different explanations for the veracity of those talks, with Mangold recently noting that the project saw him "more than flirting" with such a spinoff. The seeds of that notion were seemingly reimagined into the spin-off TV series Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett.

In support of Mangold's upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Variety detailed, "Mangold had 'more than flirted' years earlier with making a Boba Fett movie that would have been a one-off spaghetti Western in the vein of Sergio Leone."

While The Book of Boba Fett seemingly channeled some of those concepts from the original pitch, it wasn't quite a straightforward Western as the outlet reports, with that being merely one of the tones that was experimented with.

Back in November of 2021, however, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy cast doubt on there being any substantial development on such a project.

"There really was virtually no previous development. We never got very far with Josh [Trank], quite frankly, because we never developed anything specific with him," Kennedy confirmed with Empire Magazine. "And Jim Mangold never worked on a Boba Fett story."

Given that "more than flirted" isn't a concrete update, as far as how much effort Mangold invested in a script or a story, it's possible he was more invested than Lucasfilm or that the studio merely has different definitions for how concrete such a collaboration would be. Regardless of how far along that project might have been, it was through those talks that Mangold was enlisted to develop an entirely different film for the franchise.

"I said, 'Yes, but it seems like everything you're developing is continuing forward,'" Mangold recalled to the outlet about being asked to develop another story for the series. He instead pitched "a Ten Commandments about the dawning of the Force ... It is basically, for fans, a kind of religion. What is it to have found this power and not even understand what it is?"

Stay tuned for updates on Mangold's upcoming Star Wars movie.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito Weighs in on a Season 4 Return https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-mandalorian-season-4-moff-gideon-giancarlo-esposito-return/ Thu, 22 Jun 2023 16:54:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 940a1708-eee2-4222-815a-5a8e75466ea3

In Season 3 of The Mandalorian, audiences witnessed the lengths Moff Gideon went to in order to become as powerful as possible, which included manipulating beskar to craft armor and developing clones in hopes of extending his legacy. Actor Giancarlo Esposito claims he knows nothing about the upcoming Season 4 of the series, though admits he's excited for a possible return, because even if his Moff Gideon might not have survived Season 3, the incorporation of clones would allow for such a comeback. Disney has yet to officially announce a Season 4 of the series, though reports claim that production on the next season of the series could start later this year.

"I know nothing about Season 4. [Creator Jon Favreau] hasn't tipped his hat to me," Esposito shared with TheWrap. "So many fans are like, 'You were a clone, right?' It could be. I trust Jon knows what he's doing. I would love to keep dying and coming back. That'd be my favorite thing of all. There are a lot of ways to go and I'm open to whatever they have in play."

Not only do fans love Gideon, but Esposito himself clearly has a lot of passion for the character, as he described what he felt made the figure so compelling.

"I liked this character of Moff Gideon for a lot of reasons. One is he controls the chaos like no other; two is that he's very smart and knows everything. That's a given. And he has abilities," the actor expressed. "He's not only good with this very foreign object, the darksaber that doesn't belong to him but really does fit with him. He's really good with his TIE fighter. And now in this third season, we see him masterminding something that he really wants not knowing, as an audience, what the true vision is. And that's exciting. The antihero is really just a fallen hero. There's a complication about him that I try to live and breathe with when I'm on the set."

Despite being a key villain in Seasons 2 and 3 of the series, it's possible that, with the upcoming series Star Wars: Ahsoka and a movie crossover on the way, Grand Admiral Thrawn will be taking over as the major threat to the galaxy far, far away in this era of The New Republic.

Stay tuned for updates on Season 4 of The Mandalorian.

Steam Users Unable to Play Major Star Wars Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/steam-deck-epic-games-store-ubsoft-star-wars-outlaws-avatar-game-download/ Thu, 22 Jun 2023 12:35:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 254f0ce6-a229-43c4-b688-04d158c025d2

Steam users, and thus Steam Deck users as well, will be unable to play two major games when they release, including a highly-anticipated Star Wars game. For the past several years, Steam users have been increasingly tempted to download and use the Epic Games Store. The primary appeal of the digital storefront from Epic Games are the free games given out every week. The other major appeal is the exclusive games. Each year, Epic Games secures some exclusive games to entice Steam users over. And they aren't the only ones who do this. Ubisoft does this with its proprietary Ubisoft Connect as well. To this end, Ubisoft is locking two major PC games to its digital storefront.

The first of these two major releases is the upcoming Star Wars game, Star Wars Outlaws, which was announced at the Xbox Showcase earlier this month. And if you want to play the game at release on PC, you will need to buy it on Ubisoft Connect. As its release gets closer, more PC platforms could be be announced. And of course, the game could come to Steam and Epic Games Store sometime after launch, but right now if you're on PC and want to play the Star Wars game at release, you will need to use Ubisoft Connect.

"Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy's crime syndicates as you join the galaxy's most wanted.

All of this applies to a second Ubisoft game, incidentally, also being developed by Massive Entertainment: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Unlike Star Wars Outlaws, which is simply slated for a general 2024 release, the new Avatar game actually has a release date of December 7.

"Abducted by the human militaristic corporation known as the RDA, you, a Na'vi, were trained and molded to serve their purpose. Fifteen years later, you are free, but find yourself a stranger in your birthplace. Reconnect with your lost heritage, discover what it truly means to be Na'vi, and join other clans to protect Pandora from the RDA.

All of this information has been sourced straight from the official Ubisoft website. It's worth noting the information could be the result of a typo or another type of error, but there's currently no reason to believe this is the case. Ubisoft has locked PC versions of its games behind its own digital storefront in the past, so the idea it's potentially doing it again isn't very surprising.

The Flash Star Michael Shannon Explains Why He Rejected Star Wars Role https://comicbook.com/movies/news/the-flash-star-michael-shannon-rejected-star-wars-role/ Wed, 21 Jun 2023 00:37:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 28281b60-a23d-4e37-8007-f2badd1afe7a

The interconnected, never-ending narrative of Star Wars is still going strong, and is bringing a lot of surprising actors and creators into its ensemble. With the franchise thriving in Disney+ television series in the past few years, and three new movies in the cards, the question of who is and isn't joining the galaxy far far away is definitely exciting -- but now, we know one actor who rejected a role in the franchise. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine (via Insider), Man of Steel and Boardwalk Empire star Michael Shannon confirmed that he turned down a Star Wars role in 2016.

"I'm always a bit wary about those giant movies. Because they take a lot of time and I don't find them very stimulating to work on. I don't ever want to get stuck in a franchise," Shannon explained. "I don't find them interesting and I don't want to perpetuate them. If I'm making something, I want there to be some kind of purpose to it -- I don't want to make mindless entertainment. The world doesn't need more mindless entertainment. We're inundated with it."

What will be the next Star Wars movie?

The next Star Wars blockbuster is expected to be the currently-untitled movie from Ms. Marvel director Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy, which will see the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey. Earlier this year, it was revealed that co-writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson have both departed the project, with Peaky Blinders' Stephen Knight brought on to rewrite the script. In a recent interview with Yahoo! UK, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy provided an update on that film, and revealed that it will still be some time before a new version of the script is ready.

"We've been working on that [film] for a few years and all of that feeds in to our overall storytelling," Kennedy explained in a recent interview. "So we've just got to a point now where we've got a wonderful writer in Steven Knight, he's come on board and we're going to see a script probably in the next month and a half that we've been working on for quite a while. So we're getting close."

"There's never a time where something is just instantly suggested," Kennedy added. "It's such an evolution of conversations that we have all the time and we knew coming off of The Rise of Skywalker that we needed to take that further. We just didn't know how far out; we didn't know exactly what the story might be - but now we have a much better idea."

"Adaptations are how I got my start in Star Wars comics, and I'm always excited to try my hand at another," Houser said. "Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced some fantastic new characters, as well as giving us new insight into old favorites, and I hope fans enjoy seeing a familiar story play out in a whole new medium."

"I'm very pleased to be back in the Star Wars galaxy," Larocca added. "After Darth Vader and the main Star Wars titles, now it's time for me to take on Obi-Wan! I hope all of you enjoy the series as much as I do!"

Star Wars has always adapted its onscreen projects into comic book form (as well as novels), so Obi-Wan (which streamed on Disney+ in 2022) is due for its comic book version. The larger span of Obi-Wan's life was also recently explored in a Marvel Comics series, also called Star Wars: Obi-Wan (2022). For fans of the character, there is also a long, extensive, history of other comic series and novels focused on Kenobi, who remains one of the most prominent figures in Star Wars.

What Is Obi-Wan (2022) About?

Set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005), the series follows Kenobi as he sets out to rescue the kidnapped Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) from the Galactic Empire, leading to a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen).

In ComicBook.com's review of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the same problems I had with the live-action series may actually work much better on the page:

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is now streaming on Disney+, and critics (like fans) were made to wait for the official two-episode premiere to learn what deeper story and Star Wars Universe connections we would get. Well, Obi-Wan Episodes 1 and 2 certainly do the job of setting up a clear story frame for the event series - but at the same time, the series feels like a somewhat jumbled mix of different Star Wars franchise pieces, rather than a bridge between them, as promised.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan (2023) #1 will be released in September by Marvel Comics.

Outside of this, fixes have also finally come through when it comes to certain characters not appearing in locations where they should show up and others where NPCs could become invisible. All in all, this update isn't the biggest one we've seen for Jedi: Survivor since its release, but it should still make the game just a bit better.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Star Rosario Dawson Responds to Hayden Christensen Rumors https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-ahsoka-rosario-dawson-hayden-christensen-rumors-darth-vader/ Sat, 17 Jun 2023 14:12:00 +0000 Aaron Perine af3a468b-6ab5-4f84-9056-a5000ec7b82c

Star Wars: Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson addressed the rumors of Hayden Christensen popping up in the Disney+ series. There has been some speculation that we could see the two standing across from each other this year. Total Film spoke to Dawson about the possibility in Star Wars: Ahsoka, and she's just trying to focus on how amazing it is that they're in the same universe now. So, there's an artful dodge there. Even with that avoidance, there is a distinct possibility this could happen as Ahsoka came face to face with her mentor back in the Star Wars: Rebels days. Check out her full answer down below for yourself.

"It's just been really cool that at this moment, I'm joining it, and he's been able to come back [in 2022's Obi-Wan Kenobi] and also get embraced by the Star Wars family in a way that I think is much deserved," Dawson said. "It's definitely one of those things that would be super cool if he was [in Ahsoka], but I'm just really grateful that we're in the same universe."

She also mentioned, "It's pretty remarkable and exciting. We were teenagers, and then I saw him right immediately afterwards go into this universe. I never could have fathomed that I would have had any part of that, besides just being a fan of his, and being really proud of him."

Star Wars: Ahsoka's Biggest Challenge During Production

(Photo: Disney/Lucasfilm)

Star Wars creative team guru Dave Filoni has had to navigate a lot of changes since these shows began to debut on Disney+. With Ahsoka, the challenge actually ended up being introducing the title character to a lot of the audience who might not remember or did not watch the excellent Clone Wars series.

"The biggest challenge was, there's a whole bunch of audience that know her, and a whole bunch that don't," Filoni said of the fan-favorite after Star Wars Celebration. "She has one foot in the Star Wars that a lot of people know because of her connection to Anakin, and yet she's all new and can go in her own direction, in her own way. I think that makes her an interesting bridge between what came before and what's really possible." He added of George Lucas' thoughts on the project, "It's almost like when you turn in a big paper at school," Filoni said with a laugh. "It's like, 'Here it is!'"

Will There Be A Season 2 of Star Wars Ahsoka?

Star Wars: Ahsoka hasn't even premiered an episode yet. But, Rosario Dawson is hoping for a Season 2. The character's popularity has been something to behold over the years. It feels like her modern appearances just enhance the fan fervor to get more adventures with the popular force-user.

"I'm absolutely putting it out into the universe. We're joking about it, but I'm manifesting it because I feel like I helped Dave [Filoni] manifest this role," Dawson shared with Empire Magazine about a second season. "So I'm ready. I'm excited. I'm willing. I got my ice-packs ready to go for Season 2 and beyond! I would not be mad at that."

What Will Ahsoka's Journey Look Like?

Star Wars 1313 Director Joins Skydance Star Wars Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-1313-director-robilliard-skydance-game/ Thu, 15 Jun 2023 01:58:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 6f2ae733-cc48-49b0-8349-3a94a198c3ef

Star Wars 1313 seemed like it could have been a promising video game based on the franchise, but it was cancelled back in 2013. Thankfully, director Dominic Robilliard will have another crack at the franchise, as he has signed on as a Game Director at Skydance New Media. Robilliard revealed his new position in a post shared to LinkedIn. In the post, Robilliard noted his excitement to return to the world of Star Wars, as well as the opportunity to work on a Marvel project.

"I am incredibly excited to share that I will be joining Amy Hennig, Julian Beak and the incredible team at Skydance New Media as their Game Director," Robilliard wrote on LinkedIn. "To collaborate with such an amazing group of developers and to play in the iconic worlds of #Marvel and #StarWars (again!) is a dream come true."

Star Wars 1313 was in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and was announced in 2012. The game would have put players in the role of Boba Fett as an early adult. The game's name comes from its setting, which would have been Level 1313, an underground area of Coruscant. Development ceased on the project when Disney laid off the majority of the LucasArts staff, opting instead to focus on partnerships with publishers like EA. There was speculation at the time that EA might pick up development on Star Wars 1313, but clearly that didn't happen!

Unreleased gameplay footage from Star Wars 1313 leaked online last year. While the footage was never officially confirmed, it certainly looked legitimate, and gave fans a better idea of what might have been. With Robilliard back working on the Star Wars franchise, hopefully Skydance New Media's Star Wars game will end up picking up some of the better ideas that fell by the wayside. It's much too early to know how the game will turn out, but this definitely seems like a good sign!

Are you happy to see Robilliard on the game? Were you looking forward to Star Wars 1313? Let us know in the comments or share your thoughts directly on Twitter and on Hive at @Marcdachamp to talk all things gaming!

Carrie Fisher's Final Movie Confirms Summer Release Date After 7-Year Delay https://comicbook.com/movies/news/carrie-fisher-final-movie-release-date-7-year-delay-wonderwell-rita-ora/ Wed, 14 Jun 2023 20:31:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely cba3c02c-8699-4768-9303-cf87f23b96cc

Carrie Fisher's final movie is set to arrive in just a couple of weeks. The screen legend and Star Wars icon passed away in 2016, not long after wrapping a fantasy film called Wonderwell. Because of budget strains and various VFX hurdles, Wonderwell has sat on the shelf for seven years, but it's finally complete and ready to be seen by the public. That means fans of Fisher's will finally get the chance to see her very last performance.

According to Deadline, the rights to Wonderwell were acquired by Vertical, and the distributor has struck a deal with AMC for a limited theatrical run in the United States. The film will open in select AMC theaters on June 23rd, followed by a debut on digital on-demand platforms.

Wonderwell is Vlad Marsavin's directorial debut. The film also stars Rita Ora, Nell Tiger Free, Sebastian Croft, and Kiera Milward.

"The journey we have taken as filmmakers with this movie, has been as perilous as that of the movie itself," Marsavin said about the delayed release. "From filming to screen it has taken us seven years. The visual effects on a movie of this magnitude takes time, but we were challenged with Covid lockdowns and of course the passing of our wonderful Carrie Fisher. Now is the perfect time to share her magical on screen moments as Hazel."

"Carrie was full of energy during filming and even celebrated her 60th birthday with us in Italy where we shot the movie," the director said. "After a night shoot, which went on until 2am, she invited the whole team to celebrate with her and the party ended up being shut down by the police because it was deemed a little too loud. Her passing was very emotional for the whole team."

"Working alongside Carrie Fisher was one of those experiences that you never forget," said Rita Ora. "I can't wait for the world to see this intriguing and magical world of Wonderwell."

In Wonderwell, Fisher plays a mysterious woman in the woods named Hazel, who shows a young girl the potential future that awaits her and her family. The film is produced by Fred Roos, Alexander Roos, Vlad Marsavin, Orian Williams, Lee Rudnicki, and Robert Bernacchi.

"A whimsical story with enthralling imagery, the film truly transports the viewer to another realm," Vertical's SVP of Acquisitions Tony Piantedosi said. "Newcomer Kiera Milward holds her own with legends Carrie and Rita who are captivating in their roles. It is a film that will appeal to consumers of all ages."

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Director James Mangold Talks Moving From Indy To Star Wars (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/indiana-jones-director-james-mangold-talks-moving-from-indy-to-star-wars-dawn-of-the-jedi-interview-exclusive/ Wed, 14 Jun 2023 19:18:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak bcd9b07b-2b9e-433b-abf2-d3ba3d6795e1

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is hitting theaters later this month, and it marks the first movie in the Harrison Ford-led franchise to be directed by someone other than Steven Spielberg. Logan director James Mangold took over the production, and it won't be his last project with Lucasfilm. It was announced during Star Wars Celebration this year that Mangold would be helming a Star Wars film about the original Jedis. In honor of the new Indy film, ComicBook.com had the chance to chat with Mangold, and we asked if he was feeling ready to make the Lucasfilm transition from Indiana Jones to Star Wars.

"Well, I think the simplest level is movies are all about people and I've gotten to know everybody involved in all walks of life at Lucasfilm and Disney and that certainly makes it easier," Mangold explained. "And the amount of trust and the amount of the freedom they give you to me is honestly the most important aspect of making a movie like this. Because where big movies can get into trouble is when they become committee films. And we all know what those films feel like and look like and to me, they're not only, I don't enjoy those kinds of movies so much, but on another level, I certainly don't want to make one because I don't feel connected to what I'm doing. I'm just performing a service, enacting what a committee has come up with. For me, if I'm not involved in the writing and what the story is, I don't know why I'm there directing it."

James Mangold On Wanting To Explore the Dawn of the Jedi:

"Well, I've talked to [Lucasfilm] before and even worked a bit before on other projects," Mangold shared with io9. "And I'm always interested in what's going on there and have friends who work on other Star Wars projects. But I understood that much of what they were doing was kind of continuing the saga forward."

He added, "So when I mentioned to Kathy [Kennedy, Lucasfilm president] the idea that I had about going backward -- really far backward -- I was surprised that it excited her and the other wonderful people she works with at Lucasfilm ... For me, it's about, I want to be part of the saga, but I also don't want to be holding so much lore in the air that you can hardly tell a story. And what I really wanted to do, what I told her, was just can we make a kind of the Ten Commandments of the Force, you know? A kind of origin story of how the Force came to be known, understood, wielded, and harnessed."

What Is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny About?

Stay tuned for more from our interviews with James Mangold and the cast of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Star Wars Director James Mangold Details Why He Wanted to Explore the Dawn of the Jedi https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-james-mangold-movie-dawn-of-the-jedi-explained-interest-lucasfilm/ Tue, 13 Jun 2023 19:24:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 9141b1b5-42ac-4df4-810d-73272a68e0bb

Around the time of the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Logan director James Mangold was rumored to be developing a project involving Boba Fett, and while that project never came to fruition, Mangold was announced earlier this year as developing a film for the galaxy far, far away. While two other announced films will tie up loose ends for various corners of the franchise, Mangold confirmed that part of what made the project so appealing is that, by going so far back into the history of the timeline, he wouldn't have to worry about the ways in which a story would have to connect to other projects. James Mangold's film doesn't have a confirmed release date.

"Well, I've talked to [Lucasfilm] before and even worked a bit before on other projects," Mangold shared with io9. "And I'm always interested in what's going on there and have friends who work on other Star Wars projects. But I understood that much of what they were doing was kind of continuing the saga forward."

Announced alongside Mangold's film, another project was announced that would explore Rey Skywalker's development of a New Jedi Order while another film would be a culmination of TV series like The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka, taking place during the development of The New Republic.

"So when I mentioned to Kathy [Kennedy, Lucasfilm president] the idea that I had about going backward -- really far backward -- I was surprised that it excited her and the other wonderful people she works with at Lucasfilm," he added. "For me, it's about, I want to be part of the saga, but I also don't want to be holding so much lore in the air that you can hardly tell a story. And what I really wanted to do, what I told her, was just can we make a kind of the Ten Commandments of the Force, you know? A kind of origin story of how the Force came to be known, understood, wielded, and harnessed."

It's currently unknown when Mangold's film could be moving forward, though Lucasfilm has two confirmed release dates for Star Wars films in 2026, with it being possible that his movie could take either of these release dates.

Stay tuned for updates on James Mangold's Star Wars movie.

Treat Williams, Everwood and Chicago Fire Actor, Dies at 71 After Motorcycle Accident https://comicbook.com/movies/news/treat-williams-everwood-chicago-fire-actor-dies-71-motorcycle-accident/ Tue, 13 Jun 2023 02:06:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 2a42c37a-88a4-438b-995d-fe1505493c1b

Treat Williams, a prolific actor known for his work in projects like Everwood, Hair, and Once Upon a Time in America, has passed away at the age of 71. The news was confirmed via his agent of fifteen years, Barry McPherson, in a statement to People.com. According to McPherson, Williams died on the afternoon of Monday, June 12th, after being involved in a motorcycle accident, in which a car cut him off while driving.

"He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off," McPherson's statement reads. "I'm just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented. He was an actor's actor. Filmmakers loved him. He's been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He's been so happy with the work that I got him. He's had a balanced career."

Born on December 1, 1951 in Rowayton, Connecticut, Williams graduated from the Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania, making his onscreen debut soon after in 1975's Deadly Hero. After a standout role in 1976's The Ritz, he hit the mainstream with his role as George Berger in the 1979 film adaptation Hair, which ultimately earned him his first Golden Globe nomination. He also had an uncredited role as an Echo Base Trooper in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. His subsequent filmography included The Phantom, Once Upon a Time in America, Night of the Sharks, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, 127 Hours, Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader, and Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square.

One of Williams' most well-known performances was as Dr. Andrew Brown, the lead of The WB's hit series Everwood, which aired from 2002 through 2006. He went on to make TV appearances in Brothers & Sisters, Heartland, Chicago Fire, Blue Bloods, American Odyssey, and We Own This City. He also appeared in theater productions such as Follies, Grease, Over Here!, Once in a Lifetime, Love Letters, and Pirates of Penzance.

Outside of acting, Williams became an FAA instrument-rated commercial pilot and a certified flight instructor, and penned a children's book about aircrafts. He married Pam Van Sant in 1988 and they had two children together, Gille and Ellie.

Our thoughts are with Williams' family, friends, and fans at this time.

Andor Showrunner Wrote Legal Brief Attempting to Convince Disney to Drop F-Bomb in Star Wars https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-andor-f-bomb-season-finale-legal-brief-tony-gilroy/ Mon, 12 Jun 2023 20:49:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 1ee78298-b5a7-4f70-ae08-35f6f98745e9

As soon as Star Wars fans heard Maarva proclaim, "Fight the Empire," in the Season 1 finale of Star Wars: Andor, assumptions were made by audiences that this was intended to be, "F-ck the Empire," which showrunner Tony Gilroy has confirmed since its release. Director Benjamin Caron recently reflected on how Gilroy was so passionate about dropping the first F-bomb in the franchise's history that he wrote a legal brief supporting the decision, though it was a debate he ultimately lost. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe ultimately dropping an F-bomb in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it would seem Disney was open to the possibility, but opted against it for Andor.

Variety reports that Gilroy "wrote a legal brief for it," as he detailed, "I wrote a memo on it and said, 'Here's why I think it's economically prudent, and here's why I think it's good.'"

"Disney wouldn't let us use it," Caron confirmed to the outlet. "So we changed it to 'fight the empire.' I remember having a call with Tony Gilroy saying, 'Are we gonna get away with this?'"

Earlier in the season, the series offered the franchise's first "sh-t," with various other stories in the galaxy far, far away offering in-world expletives that allowed to circumvent actual cursing.

Even if the actual language was altered, the impact of the scene still remains, with star Denise Gough previously detailing what it was like to bring the scene to life.

"I was given my two Death Troopers -- one of whom had to be trained to run like a Death Trooper and not like a musical theatre star -- and I couldn't help myself, I just started doing the [hums the 'Imperial March']. Then, everyone started doing it," Gough shared with Empire Magazine.

She continued, "Fiona's [Shaw] voice was over all of us ... Except, at the end, she didn't say, 'Fight the Empire!' She said, 'F-ck the Empire!' Which we were all really excited about. But we weren't allowed to keep it, obviously."

The nature of the franchise has always been that of a somewhat family-friendly affair, so we wouldn't count on Lucasfilm leaning into any harder edges, but with what the MCU will be exploring with the upcoming Deadpool 3, the future of Star Wars could see more explorations of more mature subject matter.

Season 2 of Star Wars: Andor is currently in production.

Star Wars Outlaws Reveals First Gameplay https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-gameplay-ubisoft-ps5-xbox-pc/ Mon, 12 Jun 2023 18:23:00 +0000 Logan Moore c5f0ea67-c2c6-43f2-9eba-600d40f026de

Following its announcement within the past day, Ubisoft has today revealed the first gameplay footage from Star Wars Outlaws. As Ubisoft's first Star Wars game, Outlaws is poised to center around a new cast of characters (scoundrels, to be specific) that are looking to pull off a big heist. And while Star Wars games have become more frequent in recent years, Outlaws looks like it will be quite different from other titles that have come about.

Shown to end today's Ubisoft Forward presentation, roughly 10 minutes of Star Wars Outlaws was put on display. The presentation saw the game's main protagonist, Kay Vess, engaging in shootouts, riding on speeders, and jetting off into space on her ship. Broadly speaking, this trailer gave us a better idea of how the game's open-world will function and also fleshed out Kay's own role within the expansive Star Wars universe. In the same way that EA's Star Wars Jedi series looks to fulfill the wish of players to become a Jedi, Outlaws leans into the idea of playing as a Han Solo-type character as they look to make their way through the galaxy.

"Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, says the official description of Outlaws. "Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy's crime syndicates as you join the galaxy's most wanted."

Star Wars Outlaws still doesn't have a release date but it is poised to arrive at some point in 2024. When it does hit store shelves, it should be available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.

What do you think about Star Wars Outlaws based on this first gameplay trailer? And are you excited to play the game for yourself when it releases next year? Let me know either down in the comments or reach out to me on Twitter at @MooreMan12.

Star Wars Outlaws Announced, First Trailer Revealed https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-announced-first-trailer-xbox-showcase/ Sun, 11 Jun 2023 17:20:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 9e970761-8144-4303-a582-e589dcd0cbbd

During today's Xbox Showcase, Ubisoft pulled back the curtain on Star Wars Outlaws, a new action adventure game set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Being billed as the first ever open-world Star Wars game, Outlaws centers on a new female protagonist named Kay Vess. In the trailer, we get a glimpse at Han Solo frozen in Carbonite, giving us an idea of when in the timeline the game is set. Unfortunately no gameplay was shown, but fans won't have to wait long, as a gameplay reveal will take place on Monday June 12th during the Ubisoft Forward event.

The first trailer for Star Wars Outlaws can be found in the Tweet embedded below.

In the game, Vess will be voiced by Humberly Gonzalez, while her companion Nix will be voiced by The Bad Batch's Dee Bradley Baker. Ubisoft and Massive announced Star Wars Outlaws back in 2021, but a title was not announced, and no information beyond the game's open-world nature was revealed. In a press release, creative director Julian Gerighty spoke about the game's setting, and what made it a good fit.

"When we first imagined the first open-world Star Wars game, we explored where and when it could take place, and quickly realized that we had all the right ingredients for the journey of a scoundrel. These outlaws live life under the thumb of the Galactic Empire, but can still thrive given the opportunities that the criminal underworld opens up for people looking to take advantage of the turmoil," said Gerighty. "The time is ripe for a new outlaw to make their name, and Kay Vess is written in the stars."

Star Wars has a long and storied history in the gaming industry. There have been a lot of terrific Star Wars games released over the decades, and a few that are best left forgotten. It remains to be seen where Star Wars Outlaws will land, but the first trailer seems promising thus far. Hopefully tomorrow's Ubisoft Forward will give us a much better idea of what to expect from the actual gameplay, and what kind of narrative will be featured in the game. Star Wars video games have introduced fans to beloved characters like Cal Kestis and Kyle Katarn, so hopefully Kay Vess will join their ranks when Star Wars Outlaws releases in 2024!

Star Wars: Hayden Christensen Didn't Think He Would Land Role While Auditioning https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-hayden-christensen-didnt-think-he-would-land-role-while-auditioning/ Fri, 09 Jun 2023 17:54:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 3e0a6b11-e770-4ef3-8066-6ebaaae1de11

Hayden Christensen is best known for playing Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, and last year he returned to the role in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. This week, Christensen took part in Variety's "Actors on Actors" series alongside Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Andor star Diego Luna. The duo talked about their history with Star Wars, including their unexpected returns to the franchise. During the chat, they talked about how they landed their roles, and Christensen revealed he didn't think he would end up playing Anakin.

"I loved Star Wars, and when the audition came around, it was exciting, but it felt just unattainable. I remember meeting George Lucas for the first time and that was thrilling. And then auditioning with Natalie Portman. It was a very long process, but the entire time, I never really thought that it would ever go my way, so I was just enjoying it. Then when I got the phone call to play the part, it was a life-changing thing," Christensen shared. He added of his acting history, "I'd started when I was young. I developed my passion for it studying theater in elementary school. And then I went to a performing arts high school and focused on dramatic studies."

Luna replied, "That must have been a shock to go from theater to [Star Wars]. And back then, your films were the most technologically advanced." Christensen added, "But there was a similarity there, too, because we were filming in front of blue screens and green screens. It demands a lot of your imagination, and you don't necessarily have all of the real stimuli there to react to. So it wasn't such a leap for me. And I didn't have the experience either, so it wasn't like I was used to working a certain way. That was just what I knew."

During the conversation, Luna talked about how he landed his role as Cassian Andor.

"It was the first time such secrecy happened around anything I was going to be part of," Luna explained. "I was asked by my agent to meet someone for something that couldn't be said on the phone. I went into a meeting in a restaurant that was completely empty. There was a guy sitting in the corner with a computer open, and this was Gareth [Edwards], the director. I sat down with him, and it was just us for four hours."

He added, "My agent said, 'This might be Star Wars.' I guess she didn't want me to get excited about anything. Gareth explained to me the whole film, and he said at the end, 'I would really like you to play this role.' I said to him, 'But I don't see myself here. I love these films, but how do I fit here? No one has my accent. I've never thought this could be possible.' He basically said, 'Since I saw Y tu mam? tambi?n, I thought you could be great for a role like this. I want that kind of tone in the film. I want that realism, that feeling that it's everyday life.' I never thought that a film like Y tu mam? tambi?n would get me the chance to be in the world of Star Wars."

Which Star Wars Show Is Being Released Next?

Ahsoka is expected to debut in August.

Star Wars: Hayden Christensen Is "Reluctant" for His Daughter to See Him Play Darth Vader https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-hayden-christensen-darth-vader-reluctant-to-show-daughter/ Fri, 09 Jun 2023 03:09:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 4e193840-0661-40ec-be20-34c383394c1d

Years after bidding farewell to Anakin Skywalker in the tragic finale of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Hayden Christensen finally got the chance to dive into the Darth Vader portion of his character in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. For the first time, Christensen embodied the iconic Star Wars villain, pitting him up against his former master once again. Fans have long wanted to see Christensen play a fully realized version of Darth Vader, but the actor still isn't quite ready to show his daughter what he looks like in the mask and cape.

During a conversation with Andor star Diego Luna for Variety's Actors on Actors, Christensen said that he's not quite prepared for his eight-year-old daughter to see him playing such a scary character.

"Have her see me in the [Darth Vader outfit]? Well, hasn't happened yet," he said. "She's eight now. I don't know if I can wait much longer. I know I've been dragging my feet a little bit. She knows that I'm in Star Wars and that I played this character, but she's never seen it yet. I'm getting to that. I'm trying to figure out the best sort of point of entry."

Fortunately, Obi-Wan Kenobi also gave Christensen the chance to film some scenes as Anakin, without the Darth Vader costume on, and he was able to bring his daughter to see him film some of those.

"There are some disturbing scenes I'm reluctant for her to see at this age. But it was really nice getting to do the Obi-Wan show and actually bring her to set," Christensen said. "Not when I was in the Darth Vader outfit, but we did the flashback sequence and I got to play Anakin. She got to see me swing a lightsaber with Ewan [McGregor]. She was very concerned for my wellbeing. She was afraid that one of us were going to get hurt."

For now, there's no telling if Obi-Wan Kenobi will be the final time we get to see Hayden Christensen suit up for Star Wars.

Star Wars: Hayden Christensen and Diego Luna Compare George Lucas to Andor's Tony Gilroy https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-hayden-christensen-and-diego-luna-compare-george-lucas-to-andors-tony-gilroy/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 23:56:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak e888d7a8-ccba-4236-bd2b-16a69f149cdb

Diego Luna and Hayden Christensen sat down together for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series this week, and they discussed all things Star Wars. When Christensen starred in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, he probably didn't know he would be one of the last people to be directed by Star Wars creator George Lucas. There have been many Star Wars films and television shows since the prequels came to an end in 2005, but Lucas has taken a back seat in the galaxy far, far away. Big names such as J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson, and Ron Howard have since helmed Star Wars films, and the Star Wars shows on Disney+ are run by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and more. As for Luna, the actor first joined the franchise in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story back in 2016, which was helmed by Gareth Edwards and co-written by Tony Gilroy, who now serves as the showrunner of the prequel series, Star Wars: Andor. During their chat, Christensen talked about working with Lucas and Luna compared the experience to his time working with Gilroy.

"George Lucas subverted our expectations and understanding of this character, when he went back to Episode I and introduced him as this very sweet young kid who just had a lot of promise and potential," Christensen said when asked about Darth Vader's history. "He mapped out a very compelling character arc that was hopefully somewhat sympathetic. I think we understood what Anakin was going through, and why he was making some choices that perhaps weren't the best, and the circumstances surrounding his life. So it was a very understandable fall to the dark side, but it humanized him and made him a real person and almost somewhat of a pathetic person in a lot of ways. And you feel for Darth Vader now in a different way, too. Because it's this man trapped in this life that perhaps he didn't really want."

Luna added, "Yeah, I like that. I connect that with what Tony Gilroy did with Andor, this idea of having to tell a story backwards. We have an opportunity to make sure this character comes from a past that you would never imagine." Luna explained earlier in the conversation, "Tony Gilroy was very specific, always. Every time you had to explain too long what you wanted to do, he would be like, 'There's no room for that. It has to be simple. It has to be easy. It has to be real.' It was a constant reminder every day. If it started to feel imposed or weird or from 'a galaxy far, far away,' then we were doing the wrong thing."

Tony Gilroy on Getting a Call From George Lucas:

Lucas may not be directing Star Wars projects anymore, but he is still paying attention to the world he created. Before Gilroy was in charge of Andor, he co-write Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was well-received by critics, fans, and Lucas.

"George Lucas called me after Rogue, I had a 45-minute conversation with him after he saw Rogue, and that's the only time I've ever spoken to him. He loved it. He really did. He had a lot of things to say that I... It was like a call from the president," Gilroy shared in a recent interview with Deadline.

For now, the second season of Star Wars: Andor is slated to premiere in August 2024 on Disney+.

Andor Star Diego Luna Reveals What He Took From Set https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/andor-star-diego-luna-reveals-what-he-took-from-set/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 21:52:00 +0000 Nathaniel Brail afb13ae5-0d57-43a2-aafb-1a22773fba22

Lucasfilm has been on a bit of a hot streak after releasing their first big series, The Mandalorian, and that spawned a renaissance of Star Wars series releasing on Disney+. Since releasing The Mandalorian, we have seen several series like The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor, and there's even a series that will focus on Ahsoka Tano being released later this year. Out of all of those series, the biggest critical hit for Disney+ has to be Andor, which serves as a prequel to 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and brings back Diego Luna as the titular character Cassian Andor. Luna recently sat down with fellow Star Wars alum Hayden Christensen and had a conversation about being in the franchise and some other things. In the new interview for Variety's Actors on Actors series, Christensen asked Luna if he'd taken anything from the set of Andor and Rogue One, to which the actor revealed exactly what he took.

"I got the jacket of the character. I really worked for that. I made jokes about it since day one. I was like, 'I just got this job because this jacket fits me. Clearly, it's all about the jacket," Luna revealed. "And then the jacket had to be worn in Jordan at 45 degrees Celsius. I mean, it was impossible. I was sweating. But I'm sure you got a lot of the sweating also with the outfit."

Andor Creator on How Star Wars Series Came Together

"The success of Rogue [One] made everyone excited. They wanted to do a lot of different things," Gilroy revealed about how Andor came to be in a recent interview with Deadline. "There are always possibilities. How can they open up the Star Wars franchise? What can they do to change lanes? They wanted to do a show about Diego Luna's character, Cassian Andor, in Rogue One. Could they do a prequel of the years leading up to that? And they tried it a couple different times, but it was a combination of not being kind of wild enough and also the fact that the economics of streaming hadn't really quite arrived as they were doing it."

"You can't do this show inexpensively. There's no way to do Star Wars inexpensively. So that sort of, you know, that Venn diagram when the moment meets the economy meets the right idea, and they came back, and I had sent a sort of manifesto critique of one of the other versions in a year earlier as a friend in court just as a thing, and they came back and said, 'You know, this crazy idea that you gave us that you talked about what you would do, and it seems so insane that we would actually like to try that. And we would like to spend the money to do that', and we began tip-toeing forward with that three and a half years ago, and it will be five years by the time I'm done. So I have another year and a half or two years to go." The Andor creator added.

All episodes of Star Wars: Andor Season 1 are exclusive streaming on Disney+!

Star Wars: Hayden Christensen and Diego Luna Discuss the Difficulties of Keeping Franchise Secrets https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-hayden-christensen-diego-luna-discussion-franchise-secrets-spoilers/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 21:33:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 31007678-44ef-4b3c-a42b-65fe7afe6e62

Star Wars has been in the game of keeping secrets since the franchise was created by George Lucas outside the purview of the studio system. By the time of The Empire Strikes Back and its massive twist reveals, Star Wars had forever changed the landscape of movies, and fan expectations for biggest twists and surprises.

Well, the job of keeping fans on their toes gets infinitely harder when you are one of the most popular franchises in existence, with big reveals being a staple of your franchise DNA. Modern Star Wars actors have to navigate a minefield of online fan theories, scoop hunters constantly poking for holes in the production's veil of secrecy and Papparzzi always snapping shots of outdoor sets and shoots.

In a new discussion between Star Wars Prequels icon Hayden Christensen, and Star Wars: Andor star Diego Luna, the two actors went into just how challenging it is to keep Star Wars secrets (via Variety).

Diego Luna shared the story of how quickly he learned about the mania surrounding Star Wars spoilers, back when he was filming Rouge One: A Star Wars Story:

LUNA: When we were shooting the first week or two of Rogue One, they gave us an amazing gift, these designs of the helmets of stormtroopers. I'm not going to say who, but an hour later, that was in all the social media. That was the last gift we got in the show.

CHRISTENSEN: They were like, never again.

LUNA: Yeah, that was it. The secrecy. How do you live with that?

CHRISTENSEN: There are a lot of secrets in "Star Wars." It's tough.

LUNA: And everyone wants to know them. You might have tons of secrets that are about your past that no one wants to hear about. You can be in a conversation where someone is just there to get you to say something you're not supposed to say.

Sometimes it's hard to really envision the level of life commitment it takes to be the face of a Star Wars, Marvel, or DC project. As Luna and Christensen point out, even a casual conversation with the seemingly trusted company could allow a slip that lets another person connect the dots and figure out major spoilers of a franchise film and/or TV show.

(Photo: Lucasfilm)

Christensen went on to explain just how fine the line is: not being so crazy about secrecy that you isolate yourself, but also not being the vile person who ruins an experience for countless others:

CHRISTENSEN: It's tough for me because I like to share things. But I was always very tightlipped about everything. Of course, when I first got the phone call that I was getting the part, they were like, "You can't tell anybody" - and I got on the phone right away and I told my mom, I told my best friend. But when it comes to story points and stuff that's going on in the actual stories, I don't want to be the one who gives it away. You want it to be that fresh experience for the audience.

For Diego Luna, secrecy is a noble challenge, in order to re-create the mystique that TV and films used to enjoy freely:

LUNA: That's another thing I really loved about being so rigorous about the secrecy. I grew up going to the cinema and knowing the title of the film and probably a name or two and that was it. Today, you have an opinion before you have seen the show before the film comes out. You already know the music, how it looks, what happened on set and what others like about it, which is it's quite sad. It takes a little bit of magic away.

CHRISTENSEN: Yeah. I mean, they do a really good job of keeping the important ["Star Wars"] stuff secret. It's also fun to be in on the secret, too.

LUNA: It connects with the way I watched TV in the '90s. This idea of something coming out every week and having to wait. It gives you a week to reflect.

You can stream Star Wars TV and Films on Disney+. Luna will return in Andor Season 2; Christensen will return in Ahsoka this August.

Star Wars Actors Reveal How Franchise Changed Their Lives https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-darth-vader-hayden-christensen-andor-diego-luna-reveal-how-franchise-changed-their-lives/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 20:55:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak e2df0556-c82f-4359-84a2-2138e86344cf

Hayden Christensen and Diego Luna recently got together for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series to chat about their recent return to Star Wars. Last year, Christensen reprised his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi for the first time since Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith was released in 2005. Then, Luna played Cassian Andor in Star Wars: Andor, the prequel series to the 2016 film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. During their chat, Christensen and Luna opened up about how neither of them expected to play their character again, and how Star Wars has changed their lives.

"I mean, it would be easier to count the ways that it didn't affect my life," Christensen admitted. "It gave me an acting career. It gave me financial stability, which as a creative person is something that you can struggle with. After I finished Star Wars, there was still a desire for me to go back to smaller, more independent filmmaking and just try to cut my teeth as an actor. Because I was still learning a lot. I just tried to not think about navigating a career as much as I was just trying to do work that appealed to me, and play characters that I thought would challenge me, and help me grow as an actor. That was a great freedom."

He continued, "But what Star Wars has really given me is a connection to all the people that love these stories. That's such a special thing that you can't fully appreciate unless you're a part of something like that. I mean, I meet people now and it makes me feel a little bit old, but they'll say to me, "Anakin was my hero when I was a kid, and now my kid loves Anakin." It's this generational thing that gets passed down - and that's really special."

"I would say that has been a shock, in a good way - the love around this project and this universe," Luna said when Christensen asked how Star Wars had changed his life. "The expectation and the awareness about your show before you even finished. I've spent whole life trying to get people's attention to say, 'Hey, look, we have a film here, you might like it!' Here, it's the opposite. It's not just that they're expecting the film or the show to come out, but they also want to love it. They want to feel part of what you are doing, that connection you don't find anywhere else. You also have to understand why it's happening. You are part of something else. If you're expecting that to happen when you put on this very strange play - and you suddenly go like, 'Oh shit, no one came tonight'...

Christensen replied. "That's really astute. To be aware that you're a part of something that is bigger than you, I think is a healthy thing."

Will the Writers' Strike Delay Andor Season 2?

Previously, it was reported that the second season of Andor's production would not be halted due to the WGA strike, but showrunner Tony Gilroy announced a few days later that things had changed.

"I discontinued all writing and writing-related work on Andor prior to midnight, May 1. After being briefed on the Saturday showrunner meeting, I informed Chris Keyser at the WGA on Sunday morning that I would also be ceasing all non-writing producing functions," Gilroy said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

Stay tuned for more updates about Star Wars.

Star Wars: James Mangold's New Movie Gets Surprising Update https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-james-mangold-movie-surprising-update/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 20:25:00 +0000 Nathaniel Brail 25daa7f3-a809-4fd9-8e4c-766732739ee4

Lucasfilm may be having their way with the streaming space, releasing projects such as The Mandalorian and Andor, and it seems that they're about to make a big splash back on to the big screen. During this year's Star Wars Celebration, it was revealed that there are three Star Wars movies in development at Lucasfilm, including a Rey Skywalker movie, a film set in the Mandalorian universe, and a film set during the Dawn of the Jedi that will be helmed by James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones, and the Dial of Destiny). Mangold is, of course, really excited about helming a Star Wars movie, but it seems that he might not even begin penning the script until sometime in October. According to Jeff Sneider's The Hot Mic podcast, the Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi director isn't expected to put pen to paper until sometime in October, provided that the WGA Strike is over.

James Mangold on Origins of Star Wars Movie

During a previous discussion with ComicBook.com at the most recent Star Wars Celebration about the origin of his upcoming movie, Mangold explained, "It just came from me thinking about if I were doing one, it seemed to me that most of what they were thinking about doing with movies were either in the present of Star Wars or the future, and what attracted me most was the distant past and how this galaxy formed and how, more specifically, the Force was discovered."

With the franchise's vastly long legacy of intriguing characters, fans are really curious about the kind of figure that could be at the forefront of this type of story, with the director confirming of such a role, "First you have to write the character and that's what I'm doing right now."

James Mangold on Ben-Hur Inspiration for Upcoming Star Wars Movie

When Lucasfilm's big cinematic Star Wars Celebration panel wrapped, reporters had the opportunity to speak with James Mangold as well as the two other directors they announced, and they asked him one of the most important questions: why this project? And what kind of movie does he hope to make?

"It's a chance to tell the entire story of its own, the birth of the Force," Mangold recently revealed at Star Wars Celebration. "When I first talked to Kathy Kennedy about it, I just said, 'I just see this opening to make kind of a 'Ben-Hur' or 'The 10 Commandments' about the birth of the Force.' The Force has become a kind of religious legend that spans through all these movies. But where did it come from? How is it found? Who found it? Who was the first Jedi? And that's what I'm writing right now."

What do you think about James Mangold helming his upcoming Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi movie? Are you ready for Lucasfilm to bring Star Wars back to the big screen? Let us know your thoughts either in the comments section or by hitting our writer @NateBrail up on Twitter!

Star Wars: Hayden Christensen and Diego Luna Discuss Their Unexpected Franchise Returns https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-hayden-christensen-diego-luna-discuss-unexpected-returns-andor-obi-wan-kenobi-darth-vader/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 20:08:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 2e991842-05ee-4117-9e62-6bdafcb6cb67

Hayden Christensen and Diego Luna are the latest duo to sit down together and chat for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series. Of course, the men share one very big thing in common: Star Wars. Christensen first joined the franchise for 2002's Star Wars: Attack of the Clones as Anakin Skywalker before becoming Darth Vader in 2005's Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Last year, Christensen made his long-awaited return as the character in the Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. As for Diego, the star originally played Cassian Andor in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story before starring in the Disney+ prequel series, Star Wars: Andor, which also debuted last year. During their chat, Christensen and Luna discussed their unexpected returns to Star Wars.

"I thought that my Star Wars days were behind me, and then I got a phone call inviting me to come back. I would imagine maybe you had a similar thing with when you finished Rogue One. Did you know were going to get to continue with it?" Christensen asked Luna. "It was a joke on set," Luna replied. "'One day, we should tell how these people got here' But we never took it seriously. We didn't know if the film was going to be liked or if we were going to be the film no one went to see. We had to wait for the film to come out to understand that there was room for something like this."

Christensen added, "And Andor is so successful, too. It's a great origin story for the beginning of the rebellion and getting to see the arc of your character and how he starts off at this place where he doesn't really want anything to do with any of this. He just wants to keep to himself. But his destiny is calling." Luna replied, "I think it's because you know what he's capable of. So the interesting journey is how far can we start from that? How lost can he be? It's a show about his flaws and that contradiction that makes us real. We're not always the best version of ourselves. It was nice to find him in the worst version of Cassian possible."

Luna asked, "When you decided to come back for the Obi-Wan series, what was behind that decision?" Christensen explained, "Just the nature of getting the invitation. Star Wars holds a very special place in my heart. I enjoyed getting to go back to being a fan again and just watching these stories like everyone else. But there was a part of me that missed it, too. So when I got the call, it was a very easy decision. And the fact that it was the Obi-Wan show with Ewan McGregor, who is a good friend of mine, and that I'd get to swing a lightsaber with him again, it was a thrilling invitation. The director, Deborah Chow, is so articulate about what Star Wars is. She understands these characters so well. So I just felt like I was in good hands with her, and I was excited to get to do more with the character."

Which Star Wars Show Is Being Released Next?

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Casts Doubt on Season 2 Return, Hopes for Leia Spinoff https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-obi-wan-kenobi-season-2-vivien-lyra-blair-leia-organa-spinoff/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 18:12:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh ebf7b60e-b1ad-464b-be93-0441fbe9d183

One of the many elements of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi that was shrouded in secrecy before the project aired was that Vivien Lyra Blair would be a major component of the project, with her Leia Organa becoming a significant presence in Kenobi's history. While fans are still hoping to get more of Ewan McGregor's Jedi Master in a Season 2, Blair herself cast doubt on Leia returning for such a project, though expressed her excitement at getting to deliver more of Leia's adventures in a spinoff. Such a spinoff might currently seem unlikely, but the sprawling nature of the galaxy far, far away means we can't rule out such a return.

"Well, I think a lot of people are asking me, 'Will we get a second season of Obi-Wan?' And I honestly, I think it's very much a possibility because Ewan is just begging to do another one. He's really excited," Blair revealed to The Direct. "I think I would love to, but I was saying, like, I don't see how I would fit into it, because it's very implied that she doesn't see him again until she asked for help in the fourth movie, A New Hope. And so, I think it's kind of like, how would I fit into that? And so we're kind of hoping for my own show there. We're kind of thinking it could be fun to do a show of Leia on Alderaan. And I really hope something like that could work out."

Blair's performance as Leia was a bright spot in the series, so while fans would understandably love to see more of her, it's also hard to deny that a Season 2 of Obi-Wan Kenobi might not be the place for it. When the series revealed that Leia and Obi-Wan knew each other before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, audiences were already perplexed enough by this experience from their past, as they were assumed to be strangers in that debut movie. Additionally, some fans were upset that, rather than focusing solely on the title character, Leia was an integral component of the adventure, so a Season 2 would likely put more singular focus on Kenobi.

Whether it be Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy or director Deborah Chow, the creatives involved with the series have emphasized that the story was envisioned as a limited event, so while a sophomore season already seems unlikely, getting more of young Leia is even more doubtful.

Stay tuned for details on the possible future of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Gene Simmons Says Star Wars Creator George Lucas Stole His Nanny (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/gene-simmons-says-star-wars-creator-george-lucas-stole-his-nanny-exclusive/ Wed, 07 Jun 2023 19:01:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak af51f3ff-b54c-4fe3-98e6-b7fdbb6ec66d

Gene Simmons is best known as "The Demon" from KISS, one of the most legendary rock bands of all time, but he's also done some other interesting creative things over the years. In addition to starring in films such as Never Too Young to Die, having his own reality show, and voicing himself in a Scooby-Doo special, Simmons also has a cool history with comics. Simmons is bringing a new comic book, Dominatrix, to market with Opus Comics, so ComicBook.com had the chance to chat with the star about the venture. In addition to talking comics, Simmons also shared some wild Hollywood stories, including a surprising anecdote about Star Wars creator George Lucas.

"I'm minding my own business and the phone rings," Simmons began. "'Hello.' 'Hi, Gene?' 'Yeah.' 'It's George.' 'Hi, George. George, who?' He goes, 'George Lucas.' 'George Lucas. Well, how are you?' He goes, 'Oh, I'm really good. Say, listen, I've got two kids and I hear you've got a fantastic nanny who was a former teacher. I said, 'Yes. Oh, she's the finest and we love her because every time there's a lesson about anything she goes, 'Here's the history, here's why.' And the kids are really getting a special thing.' 'Well, listen, I'd like to hire her. Would you let her go?' I go, 'No, I'm not gonna let her go ... go get your own nanny.' ... He said, 'No, no, I need somebody special, and everybody tells me your kids are the most well-behaved and smart and all that. If you let her become my nanny, I'll get her her own 4000 square foot home on two acres, her own property, and she'll be set for life, she'll never have to worry about.' I mean, what are you gonna do? So, George Lucas stole my nanny."

What Is Dominatrix?

Dominatrix is a reimagining of a 2000 title that Simmons published. The new series is written by Holly Interlandi (Cradle of Filth) - and based on a story by creator Gene Simmons - with art by S L Gallant and Maria Keane (fresh off their run on G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero). Issue #1 features a gorgeous cover by Jim Balent (Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose) plus retailer incentive variants by Emilio Laiso and Joseph Michael Linsner.

"It's a huge thrill to reintroduce fans to Dominatrix with this fresh new take," series writer Holly Interlandi said in a statement. "Gene has been so open to working with us and taking his characters and story in a new, yet somewhat familiar, direction. I'm looking forward to seeing what fans make of it all."

You can watch Simmons tell his story about George Lucas at the top of the page.

Star Wars Reveals How Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber Became Green in Return of the Jedi https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-luke-skywalker-green-lightsaber-kyber-crystal-explained/ Wed, 07 Jun 2023 16:37:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 024bfded-e839-4000-965d-2fb1404aea91

When Luke Skywalker first ignited his lightsaber was green in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi after having lost his father's lightsaber in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, there weren't initially questions about the color of the blade. Since that lightsaber's debut, the mythology of the weapons has grown, leaving fans to speculate about why the blade was green. While there is a much more practical behind-the-scenes reason for the blade being green, the latest issue of the Star Wars comic book series has shed some insight into how Luke's self-built lightsaber would have a green blade.

WARNING: Spoilers below for Star Wars #35

In hopes of learning more about kyber crystals, Luke meets the mysterious Dr. Cuata, who claims to be an expert on the artifacts. With Luke's temporary lightsaber being broken, Dr. Cuata breaks down how a lightsaber is constructed and the ways in which the hilt interacts with the crystal it contains. In exchange for working on repairing Luke's lightsaber, Dr. Cuata asks for Luke to use the Force to connect with a red kyber crystal in hopes of "healing" it.

In a meditative state, Luke encounters a group of figures seemingly contained in the crystal, while also having visions of Darth Vader. With his efforts to heal the crystal unsuccessful, Dr. Cuata presents Luke with a clear crystal, asking him to similarly connect with the untouched item.

In this meditative state, Luke has visions of Yoda and expresses the challenges he's been facing when it comes to connecting with the Force. As this series takes place after the events of The Empire Strikes Back, Luke clearly wants to continue his training, the Rebel Alliance's efforts to rescue Han Solo have prevented Luke from returning to Dagobah.

When Luke exits the meditative state, the clear kyber crystal has become green. Despite his expertise in crystals, Dr. Cuata doesn't offer any explanation for why the crystal has turned green. In the meditation, though, Yoda refers to Luke as his apprentice, and with Yoda's lightsaber also having been green, it could be inferred that it's this connection that the two share that impacted the color of the crystal.

As the issue concludes, Luke takes the repaired lightsaber, as well as the red and green kyber crystals, hoping he could heal the red crystal and utilize the green crystal when he ultimately builds his own lightsaber.

While fans have waited 40 years for an in-world explanation for the green lightsaber, the actual reason for the change is much more simple. In Return of the Jedi, Luke uses his lightsaber in broad daylight on Jabba's barge, with the bright blue sky being a similar color to the blue blade seen in previous films. The color was changed merely so audiences could see the blade better, with the change being nothing more than a practical decision to make for better visual storytelling.

Star Wars #35 is on sale now.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Release Date Revealed In New Teaser Trailer https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/ahsoka-release-date-premiere-disney-plus-august-star-wars-tv/ Wed, 07 Jun 2023 16:24:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 31c72421-b2d1-48e0-92d8-c0698b10437b

Star Wars: Ahsoka's official release date has been revealed in a new teaser trailer: Ahsoka will premiere on Disney+ on August 23rd.

The new teaser, "Begin", is mostly a recut of the official trailers for Ahsoka, but the official release date reveal at the end is the real highlight, of course. Disney also released an updated synopsis and cast list for Ahsoka, which you can read below:

Set after the fall of the Empire, "Star Wars: Ahsoka" follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, "Ahsoka" stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

What is Ahsoka About?

Ahsoka has been looking more and more like a pivotal piece of the Star Wars Universe saga. The series will continue the storyline of the Star Wars Rebels animated series, and its open ending. Star Wars Animated universe guru Dave Filoni is the showrunner for Ahsoka, and events of this series will lead into Filoni's upcoming event film, which will bring the characters of The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka together in a final climatic chapter for this New Republic era of Star Wars TV. The threat that these Star Wars heroes will be facing is the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, a long-lost Imperial leader who is hailed as the 'Heir to the Empire' after Emperor Palpatine's apparent death.

How Ahoska Connects To Star Wars Rebels Explained

The final arc of Star Wars Rebels saw one of the earliest cells of the Rebel Alliance, The Spectres, get targeted by the Empire and Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn proved to be too cunning and resourceful to be defeated, so young padawan protege Ezra Bridger chose to give the galaxy a much-needed stalemate. Using his considerable Force powers, Ezra communed with some Hyperspace Whales in order to trap Thrawn on the bridge of his galactic cruiser and drag him, and the ship far into the unknown regions of space.

Ahsoka will focus on how Ahsoka Tano reconnects with the surviving members of The Spectres when word of Thrawn's return starts to spread - and the mystery of what happened to Ezra (and all his Force power) must finally be solved.

Star Wars: Ahsoka will premiere on Disney+ on August 23rd.

Star Wars: Thrawn Voice Actor Lars Mikkelsen Reveals Changes for Ahsoka Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-thrawn-actor-lars-mikkelsen-reveals-character-changes-in-ahsoka-series/ Wed, 07 Jun 2023 03:58:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt f05d0a95-9a35-4d13-a6ee-aba000d1e9cf

As Lucasfilm begins to adapt its animated characters for live-action, some actors who've voiced the characters in animation are making the leap to the television screen. One of the most notable to date will be seen in Ahsoka, with Lars Mikkelsen returning to play Grand Admiral Thrawn, a character he previously voiced in Star Wars Rebels. According to Mikkelsen, he approached the live-action show differently than Rebels because of the shift in medium.

"I'm not losing the voice, but I am tweaking it into live-action," Mikkelsen said in a recent chat with Empire Magazine. "When you do an animated character, there's a whole melodious approach. When you're there as a real person, that would be just slightly too much."

He added, "I love the way he rises through the Empire, and the way he carries himself in that environment to become somebody. And then of course, how can you not like a very clever villain? Thrawn takes the time to understand his opponent's culture, and what they're about. It's lovely to be playing that."

Will Thrawn return after Ahsoka?

According to Lucasfilm executive Dave Filoni, Thrawn is seen at the studio as the new Big Bad for this era of the Star Wars timeline.

"Definitely, in my eyes. When Timothy Zahn wrote Heir to the Empire, Thrawn became this very iconic villain, because he was different than anything we'd seen before. He wasn't another helmet-wearing, lightsaber-wielding bad guy, you know? There's a lot of pull to make characters that are like Vader, because it is so iconic," Filoni told the magazine. "But the boldness that Tim had was to make somebody that wasn't like that, that didn't have those abilities, but could fight in a different way. In the words 'Star Wars,' the 'war' part of it -- him being a Grand Admiral, a leader, a military strategist, a Moriarty archetype, someone that will out-think you, out-strategize you -- that really resonated. He's a critical player in this time period. We're fortunate to have that character, and fortunate to have Lars [Mikkelsen] playing him."

Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Says Ewan McGregor Is "Begging" for Season 2 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/obi-wan-kenobi-season-2-ewan-mcgregor-vivien-lyra-blair-leia/ Wed, 07 Jun 2023 03:55:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 2dd61c12-581c-45b0-846c-0a1fef719ade

Is there a new hope for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2? Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy described the live-action Star Wars show as a "stand-alone limited series" that wrapped up after six episodes. Set a decade after the events of Revenge of the Sith, the series bridged Sith and A New Hope as the exiled Jedi Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) emerged from hiding to protect young twins Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) and Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) from dark forces. And while Obi-Wan and Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) aren't fated to meet again until their final confrontation aboard the Death Star, McGregor is hopeful he'll once again say "hello there" to more Obi-Wan.

"Well, I think a lot of people are asking me, 'Will we get a second season of Obi-Wan?' And I honestly, I think it's very much a possibility because Ewan is just begging to do another one. He's really excited," Blair told The Direct. The Boogeyman star added she "would love to" return as the adopted daughter of Alderaan royalty Queen Breha Organa (Simone Kessell) and Senator Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits), but it's doubtful the young Leia reunites with Obi-Wan.

"I don't see how I would fit into it, because it's very implied that she doesn't see him again until she asked for help in the fourth movie, A New Hope," she said. "And so, I think it's kind of like, how would I fit into that? And so we're kind of hoping for my own show there. We're kind of thinking it could be fun to do a show of Leia on Alderaan. And I really hope something like that could work out."

But series director and executive producer Deborah Chow, who helmed all six episodes, recently said that the story was "conceived as a limited series" and "is closed." Still, Chow added: "There's 10 more years before New Hope, so never say never."

Chow echoed comments by Kennedy, who cast doubts about Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 -- but not more of McGregor's Obi-Wan.

"I always hesitate to say no to more Obi-Wan Kenobi," she told EW's Dagobah Dispatch podcast. "Maybe we end up doing something that gets incorporated into some of the other stories that we're doing, or eventually into a movie, but who knows? But right now, it's still our standard stand-alone limited series. We have no plans for expansion right now."

All episodes of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi are now streaming on Disney+.
